Jury fails to reach verdict in soccer disaster trial
|(CNN)The jury in the trial of a British police officer who was in charge of public safety at the Hillsborough football disaster has failed to reach a verdict on charges of gross negligence manslaughter.
Hillsborough match commander David Duckenfield, now 74, denied the charges against him in connection with the deaths of 95 Liverpool fans in the 1989 stadium disaster.
The jury at Preston Crown Court spent eight days deliberating, and were told by judge Sir Peter Openshaw on Monday that he would accept a majority verdict.
