Bangkok’s Chinese opera: Uncertain future of ancient art form

Chinese operas have played on the streets of Thailand’s capital for hundreds of years. But the digital age and modern entertainment are pulling younger generations away from the traditional performances, prompting concerns about the ancient art form’s future.

But the manager of the Sai Yong Hong troupe, Thatchai Obthong, refuses to believe the opera will ever close its curtains for good.
