{"id":21205,"date":"2019-03-13T10:24:50","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T10:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qatar-tourism.com\/Ar\/2019\/03\/13\/us-refuses-to-ground-boeing-737-max-8-after-ethiopia-plane-crash\/"},"modified":"2019-03-13T10:24:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T10:24:50","slug":"us-refuses-to-ground-boeing-737-max-8-after-ethiopia-plane-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qatar-tourism.com\/Ar\/2019\/03\/13\/us-refuses-to-ground-boeing-737-max-8-after-ethiopia-plane-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"US refuses to ground Boeing 737 MAX 8 after Ethiopia plane crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-200771816342556199\" readability=\"149.033841385\">\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/topics\/country\/united-states.html\">United States<\/a> said there is &#8220;no basis&#8221; to ground Boeing 737 MAX aeroplanes, after a second crash involving the model in less than five months\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2019\/03\/ethiopia-airlines-crash-victims-190311163746261.html\">killed everyone on board<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Despite the aviation giant&#8217;s assurances that the plane is safe and reliable, the European Union, Britain, India and China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2019\/03\/china-orders-airlines-ground-boeing-737-max-8-crash-190311031022387.html\">joined other countries\u00a0in grounding the plane<\/a> or banning it from their airspace as they await the results of the investigation into the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">However, the US has so far refused to take similar action against the US aerospace giant&#8217;s best-selling workhorse aircraft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>&#8220;Thus far, our review shows no systemic performance issues and provides no basis to order grounding the aircraft,&#8221; Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) chief, Daniel Elwell, said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">A new Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 went down minutes into a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi on Sunday, killing all 157 people on board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">That followed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2018\/10\/indonesia-crash-search-area-widened-hunt-aircraft-181031014430533.html\">crash in October of a new Lion Air jet<\/a> of the same model in Indonesia, which killed 189 people shortly after takeoff from Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>The widening actions against the aircraft put pressure on Boeing, the world&#8217;s largest aeroplane manufacturer, to prove the MAX planes are safe, and the company has said it is rolling out flight software updates by April that could address issues with a faulty sensor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>The full extent of the impact of these aircraft bans on international travel routes was unclear. There are about 350 MAX 8 planes currently in service around the world, according to the AFP news agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>Air Canada, for example, announced it was cancelling some of its flights to London following Britain&#8217;s decision to ban the aircraft.\u00a0<\/span>The EU aviation safety agency also closed European airspace to all MAX planes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Trump tweets\u00a0 \u00a0<\/h2>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>US President Donald Trump weighed in with a blistering tweet on Tuesday: &#8220;Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly.&#8221;<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span>&#8220;Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT,&#8221; he wrote, referring to the prestigious university.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"8.62275449102\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly.
