Top Hungary university forced to shut down
|One of Europe’s top academic institutions says it’s being forced to shut down.
The Hungarian government has refused to renew the legal certification of the Central European University and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban repeatedly attacked George Soros, the Hungarian-born billionaire who founded and funds the university, during the last election campaign.
The university will move its courses Vienna, but students and protesters see the closure as another attack on democracy and critical thought in Hungary by Orban’s populist and nationalist government.
